Legal Conduct Towards the Spiritual Master
Sayings of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba (ra) (twentieth century, Senegal

Consider with the maximum of respect your spiritual master; make of him your Lord and put all your belongings at his disposal.

Provide for his needs during all your life by means of donations; work as much as you may.

Avoid laughing, joking and talking before your spiritual master if you aspire to good conduct. In his presence, avoid turning the head and moving on all sides.

Avoid talking too much before him; indeed, observe silence if you want to benefit from his uprighteousness.

Never be in his company, all life long, without honoring him as is the habit of this present generation.

Never consider that you are in the presence of a familiar person except by force of circumstances.
